Racing for a Cause logo
Racing for a Cause was started in 2009 by then 7 yr old  Ricky Springer.  Born with an eosinophilic disorder called eosinophilic colitis, Ricky suffered horribly for the first 21 months of his, while 18 doctors from different specialties were unable to determine the cause.

Because of his battle to obtain an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment, Ricky decided to use his own dirt track racing as a platform to educate everyone he could about these diseases. To date, Ricky has educated approximately 3.9 MILLION people, through his racing as well as media, special events, and appearances.

Racing for a Cause is an awareness and fundraising program under the direct supervision of APFED.  All donations through the Racing for a Cause campaign go directly to APFED to be specifically designated towards the education of physicians and the general public about Eosinophilic Disorders.

“NO ONE should suffer and live in
pain like I did!” – Ricky Springer

APFED is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to families coping with eosinophilic disorders.  APFED strives to expand education, create awareness and fund research while promoting advocacy among its members.

Eosinophilic Disorders are rapidly emerging as a healthcare problem worldwide.  Yet, may patients suffering from these disorders go undiagnosed for years due to a lack of information or awareness of these diseases.

Eosinophilic Disorders occur when eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, accumlate in body tissues causing inflammation and damage. More often than not, these disorders are misdiagnosed as other diseases, such as Reflux or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).   Treatments for these disorders include total food elimination, requiring patients to live off an elemental formula which can be taken either orally or via a feeding tube; limited/restricted diets; and/or steroid treatments.   There is currently no cure for this disease.
